Full undercard for Friday’s Shobox headlined by Caballero & Perez-Maldonado

As the summer boxing season begins to wind down, Golden Boy Promotions’ event this Friday night, August 24, at Fantasy Springs Resort Casino in Indio, Calif. will keep the intensity at a high level, as ShoBox: The New Generation presents a hard-hitting doubleheader featuring Randy Caballero vs. Manny Roman and Michael Perez vs. Fidel Maldonado.

Before the ShoBox lights shine, the action on-site begins with a compelling five-fight undercard featuring some of Southern California’s most popular and exciting young prospects as well as rising undefeated star Christopher Pearson.

The younger brother of Friday’s headliner, 18-year-old junior featherweight Ryan Caballero will make his professional debut against Los Angeles’ Manuel Machorro (0-6-1) in a four round matchup. A boxer since the age of eight, Caballero is a former Junior Olympic and Ringside World champion. He’ll look to follow in his brother’s footsteps as a pro beginning this Friday night.

A decorated amateur boxer who won the 2011 United States National Championship and the 2009 PAL National title, 21-year old Christopher Pearson (7-0, 4 KO’s) is one of those intriguing talents you only see once in a great while. A professional since November of 2011, Pearson has stayed busy with three fights in 2012 already. Now seeking his eighth win, the Trotwood, Ohio native will face Salt Lake City, Utah’s Christian Nava (2-1-1) in a six round junior middleweight fight.

In a six round middleweight matchup, Coachella’s Angel Osuna (9-3-1, 5 KO’s) attempts to stretch his five-fight winning streak to six when he meets Las Vegas’ Yosmani Abreu (3-3-1).

Los Angeles junior lightweight standout Santiago Guevara (3-0, 1 KO) is back in action this week to take on Lake Dallas, Texas’ Wilbert Mitchell (1-5) in a four round battle and opening up the event in a four round fight will be heavyweights Gerald Washington (1-0, 1 KO) of Vallejo and Gary Cobia (0-1) of Ogden, Utah.

Also, future Hall of Famer Bernard “The Executioner” Hopkins will be on hand to meet fans, sign autographs and take pictures from 7:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. inside the Fantasy Springs Special Events Center. The meet and greet is open to the public with the purchase of a ticket to the event.

Caballero vs. Roman and Perez vs. Maldonado are presented by Golden Boy Promotions and sponsored by Corona. Doors open at 5:00 p.m. PT on fight night and the first bell rings at 5:30 p.m. PT. The ShoBox: The New Generation doubleheader will be televised live on SHOWTIME at 11:00 p.m. ET.
