Carl Froch has slammed the potential of Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua fighting in the early hours.
Fury and Joshua are set to finally fight each other in November, but a venue for the clash remains up in the air.
Saudi Arabian boxing chief, Turki Alalshikh who is bankrolling the bout, insists it can only take place on British soil if the timings can be moved to suit a global audience.
Alalshikh revealed this week the pair would have to fight at 2am and according to Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn, Netflix which will broadcast the long-awaited showdown, are pushing for it to be on a US timezone.
“Netflix want to maximise the viewership for that fight,” Hearn told IFLTV.
“They feel that a fight in the states at 5pm [East Coast] or 2pm West Coast doesn’t rate.
“But a fight at 9pm East Coast or 10pm East Coast does rate significantly better.
“They feel like if the fight was at 2am in the UK, the numbers would be exactly the same vs 11pm.”
Former super middleweight world champion, Froch has called for organisers to reverse plans and instead put it on to suit a UK audience.
“It’s going to be on Netflix,” the 49-year-old said on his YouTube channel Froch on Fighting.
“I don’t know why they’re worried about the American audience.
“British fight. Two British fighters.
“Everyone’s excited about these two coming together and getting it on.
“It needs to be on British soil at a reasonable hour at 10pm.
“In the middle of November, it’s going to be freezing cold.
“We don’t mind being cold at 10/11pm, but not four in the f***ing morning.
“It’s taking the p***.”
Wembley Stadium has a strict curfew of 11pm for weekend events and Alalshikh would need approval from both the council and mayor to extend the curfew.
The clash also hinges on both men winning warm-up bouts, although the pair are heavy favourites to defeat their respective opponents.
Fury faces veteran former world title challenger, Mariusz Wach in Thailand on July 24.
A day later, Joshua tackles unknown Albanian, Kristian Prenga in Saudi Arabia.
