As the May 18th undisputed heavyweight world title clash between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk draws ever nearer, fans can expect to see a plethora of predictions flooding their social media feeds and television screens.

Bookmakers are barely able to split Fury and Usyk, who have established themselves as the two premier heavyweights of this generation over the past few years.

Former super middleweight champion, George Groves is one man who has actually sided against his compatriot and is picking the masterful Ukrainian to emerge victorious in Riyadh.

Groves has been steadfast in his belief that Usyk will topple his fellow Brit – despite perhaps not endearing himself to the Fury clan in the process.

Speaking on Talksport Boxing this week, ‘Saint George’ has doubled down, stating that Usyk’s boxing ability is “a lot better” than that of ‘The Gypsy King.’

“I still think that Usyk beats him [Fury]. The argument is that a good big ‘un beats a good  little ‘un, but I think Usyk is an exceptional fighter.

“In terms of their boxing ability, Usyk is a lot better. His feet are a lot sharper.

“Fury’s got a lot of boxing know how and a great boxing IQ and obviously he’s got the size that he’s always used to his advantage, but I think time’s maybe caught up with him a little bit.”

The historic four-belt unification had originally been due to take place back in February, however Fury sustained a cut in sparring which saw the fight pushed back.

However, despite the injury putting Fury on the sidelines for weeks, Groves explained why it actually may have been to his benefit.

“Maybe the cut might help him a little bit more than it helps Usyk.

“It felt like Fury needed as much time as possible to prepare for Usyk – and he’s now got as much time as possible to prepare for Usyk.

“Usyk might be around twiddling his thumbs, thinking is the fight actually going to happen?”

Despite what fears Uysk or anyone else may have had, things look all systems go for the biggest heavyweight fight of the century in Saudi Arabia.
