Amir Khan admits he is concerned for Terence Crawford ahead of his super fight against Canelo Alvarez.

Crawford will move up two weight classes to challenge Canelo for his undisputed super middleweight titles on September 12 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.

Khan is best placed to give his view on the bout having shared the ring with both men.

The 38-year-old, moved up two weight classes himself to face Alvarez in 2016, suffering a devastating sixth round knockout loss.

And the Bolton man, who was beaten by Crawford three years later, has questioned why the Omaha native is taking the gamble by facing the Mexican great.

“Canelo is a very dangerous fight for Crawford,” Khan told FastSlots.

“You’re only one punch away from getting hurt, Canelo’s power is always going to be there.

“Crawford has earned good money, he has a beautiful family, why risk it?

“You’re only one punch away from getting hurt, and he doesn’t really need the money or the fame.

“He’s pound-for-pound the best fighter in the world.

“I was never the same fighter again after facing Canelo.

“You can get knocked down, fine, you can get back up again, but the knockout Canelo gave me, it probably took five years off my life.

“I was at the peak of my career and never came back as the same fighter again.

“I wasn’t gun-shy or scared, but that one shot, it wasn’t good for the body or the mind.

“And it changed my opponent’s strategy for fighting me, they all started to try to land that one big shot.”

Despite Khan’s concerns over Canelo’s punching power, the four-weight world champion hasn’t registered a knockout victory in almost four years, with his last seven bouts going the distance.

Crawford, 37, was ringside earlier this month to watch Alvarez, 34, reclaim the undisputed championship with a unanimous decision win over William Scull in Saudi Arabia, before the pair faced off after confirming their showdown.

Crawford would have been out of the ring over a year by the time he steps in to face Alvarez, having last fought in August when he beat Israil Madrimov to become WBA super welterweight world champion in Los Angeles.
