World Boxing Council orders rematch between GGG and Canelo

The Gennady Golovkin and Canelo Alvarez rematch moves a step closer as the World Boxing Council (WBC) ordered a rematch of the 16th September clash. WBC president, Mauricio Sulaiman, confirmed the rematch at the World Boxing Council Convention in Baku, Azerbaijan. As the first fight ended in a controversial draw, due to Adelaide Byrd scoring in favour of Alvarez when many believed GGG had the better of his opponent, Sulaiman said at the convention,” “It’s the fight that the world wants to see. It’s the fight that both fighters want.” The fight could take place next year in May, during Cinco de Mayo, ...

Canelo vs GGG – Fight Review

In a fight billed as the ‘Fight of the year’, the action while not as explosive as we expected was there, the drama was there, but the decision took away from the overall impact from the fight, and as a result disrupted the action. In the early rounds Canelo looked more comfortable and was busier, while giving GGG a difficult target to find. In rounds four through nine, GGG became more comfortable and began to out box Canelo. Dictating the pace with his jab, cutting the ring off and landing his power shots against the ropes, it looked as if ...

Canelo Alvarez vs Gennady Golovkin – Fight Prediction

The Legend and Iconic wrestling and pop culture star Rick Flair has a saying that while has transcended the sports world in the past 30 years, it still remains relevant today, and that is “ To be the man, you’ve got to beat the man”. On one side, we have Canelo Alvarez.  A 27-year-old Phenom who is looking at becoming boxing’s biggest attraction in the post Mayweather and Pacquiao era, and is looking to beat the man standing in his way. On the other side, we have the 35-year-old middleweight king, Gennady Golovkin, looking for his moment to catch the ...

How great is Gennady Golovkin?

Gennady Golovkin aka GGG is a throwback fighter who has garnered comparisons to Marvin Hagler and even Mike Tyson. His destructive power, timing on his jab and his ability with his footwork to cut the ring off vaulted him to 23 straight knockouts before his UD win over Danny Jacobs this past March. A big question when it comes to GGG is his level of opposition. While he owns 3 of the 4 middleweight belts, some feel he hasn’t faced a big name opponent who has challenged him. In his defense, many fighters at middleweight have stayed far away from ...

How great is Canelo Alvarez?

Being a Mexican fighter comes with a lot of pressure to live up to the historic fighters the country has produced. Chavez Sr, Morales, Barrera, Marquez etc. are all Mexican warriors who let their fists grant them the respect they deserve. Canelo Alvarez‘s mission is to be named amongst those Mexican greats, and at 27 years old he is heading down that path. Canelo has a great mix of hand speed, power and discipline in the ring to go along with his physical frame, resulting in a great resume on paper. His KO wins against Amir Khan, Liam Smith, and ...
