Katie Taylor closed the book on her trilogy of fights with Amanda Serrano at Madison Square Garden in New York, as she took a majority decision win to defend her unified world super lightweight title on Friday.
Taylor and Serrano had originally met at the same venue in April 2022, and the Irishwoman came out a split decision winner in a very close contest. The sequel took place in July last year, and Taylor would emerge the winner again in another close contest in Arlington, Texas by one point on all three cards.
Taylor (25-1, 6 KOs) began on the front foot in this one, but it was a cautious opening round, and Serrano (47-4-1, 31 KOs) possibly shaded the second as she landed with a left hand.
Taylor began to warm to her task, a straight right hand finding the mark in round three on more than one occasion, and the fourth saw the 39-year-old put together punches well as she began to grow in confidence.
As usual in two-minute round fights, rounds were tricky to score, and the pair exchanged blows in round six, but the action slowed in the seventh in what was becoming a more sedate affair than their previous two battles.
Serrano looked to have taken the eighth on workrate, but her rival rebounded to work well on the counter in the penultimate frame, and she finished off like a champion, landing clean shots on the Puerto Rican as the contest went to the final bell.
One judge scored the bout 95-95, but two scores of 97-93 in Taylor’s favour ensured she came out the winner once again.
Baumgardner sees off Miranda
On an all-female card, undisputed super featherweight champion Alycia Baumgardner defended her wealth of gold with a clear points win against Spain’s Jennifer Miranda (12-1, 1 KO).
Baumgardner (16-1, 7 KOs) won by two scores of 98-92, and a third tally of 97-93.

Marshall stunned by Green
Savannah Marshall return to boxing ended in defeat, as Shadasia Green added the IBF super middleweight title to her WBO crown with a split decision win.
Marshall (13-2, 10 KOs) had been campaigning briefly in MMA, but came back to the squared circle to try to unify the division, which ultimately ended in failure as Green (16-1, 11 KOs) took scores of 96-93 and 95-94 to secure victory, with a third judge ruling 96-93 in Marshall’s favour.

Scotney unifies
Ellie Scotney was a British fighter that did unify on the night, as she added the WBC super bantamweight title to her IBF and WBO belts with a wide win on the cards against Yamileth Mercado (24-4, 5 KOs).
Scotney (11-0) was a winner by two scores of 98-92, and 100-90.

Johnson becomes undisputed
Cherneka Johnson (18-2, 8 KOs) became the undisputed bantamweight champion, as she took the IBF title from Shurretta Metcalf (14-5-1, 2 KOs) to add to her WBA strap, with the vacant WBC and WBO titles also on the line.
The Aussie found a late burst, and took home the array of gold via ninth-round stoppage.

Remaining Undercard
Chantelle Cameron was looking to make a statement in order to try and secure big fights, but had to settle for a routine points win in defence of her interim WBC super lightweight title with a points win against Jessica Camara (14-5-1, 3 KOs).
Cameron (21-1, 8 KOs) was a 99-91 winner for two judges, and as 98-92 win for a third.
In eight-rounders, Ramla Ali (10-2, 2 KOs) returned after losing in a bid for the WBC title against the aforementioned Mercado, and she took a competitive points win against Lila Furtado (11-3, 2 KOs) at super bantamweight, and middleweight prospect Tamm Thibeault (3-0, 2 KOs) won in the fifth round against Mary Casamassa in a contest fought over three minute rounds.
Casamassa (6-1, 1 KO) was floored in the opening round.
