In fact, for many boxing fans in the United States, this was their first real glimpse at the knockout machine Valero. But that would be all there was to be. Nobody will ever know how the career of Valero would have played out if not for his untimely and tragic demise. After the defense of his WBC title against DeMarco he was to be in line for a big fight against a big opponent, where he could further test his unbelievable streak of 27 KOs in 27 fights.
For DeMarco on this night, it was just too much too soon, and he was overwhelmed despite putting on a nice outing for the fans.
