As Jake Paul’s fight with Mike Tyson draws ever nearer, one former world champion has put the proverbial boot in.
There has been widespread criticism of the contest, which will pit 57-year-old Hall of Famer Tyson against a man thirty years his junior in Paul.
Tyson had an exhibition with Roy Jones Jr in 2020, however many still worry about just what state he’ll be in come fight night in July.
The bout is to be shown live on Netflix as the streaming services’ first-ever live sporting showcase and is expected to attract mammoth viewing figures.
All of that is inconsequential, however, to Irish boxing legend Carl Frampton, who admitted to Talksport that he has deep concerns about the event.
“I don’t like it if I’m honest. Mike Tyson will be 58 when the fight comes around.”
“I’m asking my kids who they think will win the fight and they’re saying Mike Tyson because they know him as the legend, but they don’t realise he’s a 58-year-old man.
“Not long ago there was footage of him in a wheelchair, he’s had an issue with his back, it’s not for me but he’ll be making a lot of money for it.”
Both men have been teasing the other with menacing videos and veiled threats in order to build hype before the event, a contest for which the exact rules are yet to be fully confirmed.
Known as ‘The Problem Child’, Paul dispatched both of his last two opponents – Andre August and Ryan Bourland – in less than a round, and does look to have markedly improved as a boxer over the past 18 months.
There was some good news yesterday for those with concerns about his fight with Tyson, as it was confirmed that the bout would be an exhibition with 16oz gloves.

This makes a huge difference when compared with the 10z gloves that would have been used if the pair were to meet in a fully fledged professional fight, as some initially touted.
