Former boxer Oscar De La Hoya accepted the Shining Star Honoree Award onstage during Make-A-Wish Greater Los Angeles at its Annual Wishing Well Winter Gala at The Beverly Hilton Hotel yesterday, Dec. 9, in Beverly Hills, California.

As a friend of Make-A-Wish for 15 years, De La Hoya has experienced first-hand the power of granting a wish. For children facing life-threatening medical challenges, a wish inspires them to fight harder, persevere and gather the strength to get better.

“Whether a person is fighting an opponent in the ring or a major health challenge, strength, discipline and focus are the key elements for success and recovery,” said De La Hoya. “I am honored to provide that connection for children and help them find their inner power to overcome whatever obstacles they may be facing.”
