Unbeaten heavyweight, Demsey McKean is hopeful that Eddie Hearn will put on a major card in Australia this year.

McKean (20-0, 13 KOs) inked a promotional deal with Matchroom in November and stopped Don Haynesworth in six rounds that same month.

The 31-year-old is part of a growing Australian roster at Matchroom, with Ebanie Bridges, Skye Nicholson, Liam Paro and Brock Jarvis also aligned with Hearn’s promotional company.

Hearn has mentioned plans to stage a bill down under, with talks ongoing for an undisputed lightweight title clash between unified Australian titlist, George Kambosos Jr (promoted by Lou Di Bella) and WBC champion, Devin Haney (promoted by Matchroom) and McKean says it would be a huge event for Australian boxing if the pair can seal a deal to fight in Kambosos’ backyard.

Asked whether he thought a card in Australia is in the works, McKean told proboxing-fans.com: “100% there is, Eddie said it himself.

“Looking at holding a show hopefully middle of the year.

“If he can get the Haney-Kambosos fight out there, that’s massive and then obviously myself against another big name, that’s massive as well.

“He’s got Skye Nicholson, Liam Paro, Brock Jarvis, Ebanie Bridges, just to name a few others and I’m sure there’s probably going to be more Aussies to be signed, so that’s going to be a massive card alone.”

The Queensland man is now training permanently in the UK under trainer Tony Sims, ahead of his next fight against Ariel Bracamonte on the undercard of Lawrence Okolie’s WBO cruiserweight world title defence against Michal Cieslak at the O2 Arena on February 27, live on DAZN.

McKean previously spent time in the UK helping Anthony Joshua prepare for his fight with Oleksandr Usyk in September and then went to Portugal to spar with Dillian Whyte and the southpaw believes he is already making progress under Sims, ahead of his UK debut.

“I’ve learnt a lot.

“A lot more patience, working off the jab a bit more.

“A lot more rotation, I’m quite a fast puncher for a heavyweight as well, but now we’re working on keeping the fast hands, but adding a lot more rotation, adding that power to the arsenal too.

“So, it’s come a long way so far and like I said it’s only the beginning and we’ve still got a lot more to learn and I haven’t even had a full camp under Tony yet and I’ve already shown a lot of progress in sparring and training.

“So, it’s going to be interesting after three, four, five, six months.”
