Jaron Ennis is reportedly “very close” to securing his next fight.
Ennis catapulted himself into the pound-for-pound list with a stunning seventh round stoppage of Xander Zayas last month in Brooklyn, to capture the WBA and WBO super welterweight world titles.
‘Boots’ became a two-division world champion and his return is targeted for November, according to his promoter Eddie Hearn.
Hearn claimed this week this could come against IBF titlist, Josh Kelly, provided he overcomes Caoimhin Agyarko on July 25 in Jeddah.
“Boots will be scheduled around November time,” Hearn told IFLTV.
“He’s for me the most exciting fighter in boxing right now.
“Boots wants all the belts.
“He’s desperate to become undisputed.
“Josh Kelly will fight on that [Anthony Joshua vs Kristian Prenga] card [on July 25].
“When he comes through that fight, there’s a very good chance that Josh Kelly will fight Boots in November in America.”
However, according to Vergil Ortiz Jr’s trainer, Robert Garcia, his charge and Ennis are closing in on a deal.
The pair were close to sealing a mouthwatering showdown earlier this year, but talks collapsed after Ortiz became embroiled in a lawsuit with his promoter, Golden Boy.
“It is very true, the fight is very close,” Garcia told Boxing Scene.
“Eric Gomez, Vergil Ortiz Snr, [manager] Rick Mirigian, they all came to me and asked me what I think about the fight.
“I said, ‘Let’s do it, there’s no need to wait [or] get a fight before that.’
“A lot of people think Vergil needs a fight before that.
“No he doesn’t, Vergil fought less than a year ago.”
Ortiz retained his WBC Interim super welterweight title with a second round knockout of Erickson Lubin in November.

The 28-year-old came face-to-face with Ennis after the bout and the Texan called out his Philadelphia rival after his victory over Zayas.
“Yea I’m sleeping Jaron,” he posted on X.
