Eddie Hearn insists Jaron Ennis will be back in the ring before the end of the year.
Ennis, on his fifth fight under Hearn’s Matchroom, produced a scintillating performance to knock out Xander Zayas and become the unified WBO and WBA super welterweight world champion in Brooklyn last month.
‘Boots’ became a two-weight world champion having previously reigned as the unified 174 pound champion.
The 29-year-old’s promoter, Hearn is targeting a November return and says this could come in a unification clash with IBF champion and fellow Matchroom fighter, Josh Kelly who is set to defend his title against Caoimhin Agyarko on the undercard of Anthony Joshua’s return against Kristian Prenga in Jeddah on July 25.
“Boots will be scheduled around November time,” Hearn told IFLTV.
“He’s for me the most exciting fighter in boxing right now.
“Boots wants all the belts.
“He’s desperate to become undisputed.
“Josh Kelly will fight on that [Joshua vs Prenga] card [on July 25].
“When he comes through that fight, there’s a very good chance that Josh Kelly will fight Boots in November in America.”
Hearn is also not ruling out bouts with WBC titlist, Sebastian Fundora and Vergil Ortiz Jr, who called out ‘Boots’ after his victory.
The pair were expected to meet earlier this year, but talks broke down after Ortiz became embroiled in a legal situation with his promotional company, Golden Boy.
“Yea I’m sleeping Jaron,” the 28-year-old posted on X.
“If I get him like that I promise you I get him out of there.”
The Ring reported that Ennis and Fundora were in talks to fight in November or December.
However, Fundora’s promoter, Sampson Lewkowicz said his charge will be facing his mandatory challenger Ermal Hadribeaj next.
“Sebastian Fundora will comply with the WBC and face his No. 1 mandatory next,” he told Boxing Scene.
“A fight with Ennis could happen, but some time next year.”
