Floyd Mayweather to Pay for Joe Frazier’s Funeral

Late Monday evening, the world found out the terrible news that Joe Frazier died. Frazier was 67 years old, and gave into terminal liver cancer.

Boxing is a sport where few outsiders look out for the best interests of the men actually plying their trades in their ring. That’s why most commonly, it’s boxers who look out for one another. Upon hearing of Frazier’s death, undefeated Floyd Mayweather stepped up to the plate for Frazier’s family and announced he would pay for Frazier’s funeral. On Twitter, Mayweather said:

RIP Smokin Joe. My thoughts and prayers go out to to the Frazier family. We lost an all time great tonight.

My Condolences go out to the family of the late great Joe Frazier. #TheMoneyTeam will pay for his Funeral services.

Mayweather also changed his image on his Twitter account to a picture of a young Frazier in his prime.

While the media prefers to focus on Mayweather’s extravagant lifestyle, villainous public persona and ongoing legal troubles, Mayweather is well known in boxing circles for gestures such as this.

For example, when former opponent Genaro Hernandez died from his own battle with cancer this summer, it was Mayweather who again stepped in and paid for the funeral.

Mayweather has his own foundation, and certainly does his part to stay involved with and help out his local communities, from his home of Grand Rapids, Michigan to his current home base in Las Vegas, Nevada.

So say what you will about the man who calls himself “Money” and makes you root against him in the squared circle, but it’s a stand up act after a piece of tragic news.
