Ryan Garcia insists Conor Benn is “making excuses” ahead of their world title fight next month.
Garcia is set to defend his WBC welterweight crown against Benn at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on September 12.
Benn fights for a maiden world title in his first fight at 147 pounds in over four years.
The 29-year-old’s win over Regis Prograis in April was a 150 pound catchweight bout, following two meetings with Chris Eubank Jr at 160 pounds.
‘The Destroyer’ has already confirmed his clash with Garcia will be his last at welterweight.
“The weight cut’s brutal, man,” he told SunSport.
“It’s hard. It’s very hard.
“This will be my last fight at 147, for sure.”
Garcia, who captured the belt with a unanimous decision victory over Mario Barrios in February, believes his rival is looking for an excuse should he lose.
“We know you can’t make weight,” the 28-year-old said on a live stream.
“This is why Conor Benn said this is his last time at 147.
“My guy is making excuses before he loses.
“Who says that bro?
“’This is my last fight at 147.’
“You gonna go backwards just to get that a** whooped?
“It’s fine he’s just going to run into it.”

The Californian’s win over Barrios was his third attempt at a world title, having seen his victory over Devin Haney in 2024 overturned to a no contest following a failed drugs test.
‘King Ry’ was then soundly beaten by Rolly Romero in a bid for the WBA welterweight title last May.
Should he defeat Benn, a rematch with Romero who defends his belt against Teofimo Lopez on Saturday in Las Vegas could be in the offing.
“I want to fight the winner of Teofimo vs Rolly,” he told Ring Magazine.
“If I could complete a side mission to redeem myself for that [defeat to Romero] or right that wrong, I will.”
