Jaime Munguia headlined a card at the Honda Centre in Anaheim, California, and the Mexican turned back the challenge of the tough Gabriel Rosado in a wide points win.

Munguia was defending his WBO Intercontinental middleweight title, and he maintained his number one ranking with the WBC and WBO with his latest success.

It was always likely to be a fun fight wherever Rosado is involved, and it didn’t disappoint, but Munguia was just too big and fresh for his opponent here. The favourite made a fast start, utilising smart combinations and footwork to leave Rosado guessing, and he would have spells of relentless power punching, reducing Rosado to only the odd counter in response. When Rosado did have success with stinging shots, he was unable to capitalise, with the next Munguia wave of attack imminent. Rosado is as game as they come though, and he saw his task through right to the end, although the result was beyond doubt.

Munguia moved to 38-0 with a win by scores of 119-109, 118-110 and 117-111.

Arely Mucino survived a scare, as she took a ten round split decision win against the unheralded Jacky Calvo. Calvo decked Mucino in the opening round, and took one scorecard by a 96-93 margin, but the remaining two judges saw the fight the same score in Mucino’s favour.

William Zepeda defended his WBA Continental Americas lightweight title with a fourth round knockout of John Vincent Moralde, while D’Mitrius Ballard remained uneaten with a 98-92 across the board won against Paul Valenzuela Jr at middleweight.

Alexis Rocha knocked out Jeovanis Barraza in the ninth round of their welterweight contest, and there were knockout wins for Alejandro Reyes against Osmel Mayorga, Asa Stevens over Felix Mendez Vazquez and Jorge Chavez on debut against Gilberto Aguilar.
