The following statement was prepared and approved by Fan Base Boxing on behalf of IBF/NABF Super Middleweight Boxing Champion Jesus “El Martillo” Gonzales. Hopefully, this authorized and detailed statement will answer the often asked question: Where is Jesus “El Martillo” Gonzales and when will he fight again? Jesus last fought on July 8 , at US Airways Center in Phoenix where he defeated a much bigger Francisco Sierra and was awarded a 12 round unanimous decision for his effort.
ESPN televised the brawl and more than 5,000 fans chose to watch the event live instead of staying home to watch a fight that netted huge rating numbers for ESPN. Normally, ESPN televised fights draw a live crowd of somewhere between 200-500 fans. The win upped Gonzales’ record to 27-1. His only loss (8th round TKO) came at the hands of Jose Luis Zertuche in 2005 after his (Gonzales) right hand was broken early in the fight. To this day, Gonzales blames himself for the loss even though the injury reduced hm to being a one handed fighter. After the bout, a medical diagnosis confirmed the the hand was broken.
His fans all want to know when he will fight next. Jesus is asking the same question. He doesn’t know if his record (27-1) is scaring off potential opponents or perhaps high praise from legendary trainers Emanuel Steward and Naazim Richardson has reached their eyes and ears. Whatever the reason, it isn’t fair to a well respected champion pugilist affectionately known as “The Hammer” to his thousands of faithful fans. Since the Holiday season is near; Jesus would like to send the following greeting to several of his Super Middleweight colleagues and to a lighter Julio Chavez Jr.: “Let’s Get The Party Started.” Here is a partial “wish” list of “professional” boxers he is hoping will respond to his open and sincere challenge:
Julio Chavez Jr.: Jesus aka Ernie would be willing to drop down to 160 to fight Junior and the bout would sell out any venue in Phoenix or Mexico.
Lucian Butte: Gonzales is popular in Canada and World Champ Butte once toyed with the idea of fighting “El Martillo” but chose Glen Johnson, instead.
Kelly Pavlik: The Ohioan and Arizona Native once sparred with Gonzales getting the best of the exchange. Fan Base has tendered an offer to Pavlik.
Andre Ward: “El Martillo” fought the world champ twice as an amateur and won both encounters. Ward says he wants to avenge the losses..but when?
Jermain Taylor: Skipped over Gonzales to fight a suspect Jesse Nicklow who hasn’t fought anybody of note.
Mikkel Kesller: Born in Copenhagen, Denmark now fighting out of Germany. A Kesller/Gonzales bout would be a thriller anywhere.
Arthur Abraham: Gonzales is ready to fight someone who continuously whines about not being respected as a super middleweight..dukes up!
Carl Froch: Prime time player faces Ward this month….Gonzales wants the winner!
Andrea Dirrel: Gonzales fought Dirrel in US Championships and was robbed….Dirrel’s upcoming bout with Darryl Cunningham is a sham!
Alfredo Angulo: Another familiar name beaten by “El Martillo” as an amateur. Angulo fights in a lighter weight division, now.
Andre Berto, another victim of Gonzales, has dropped weight; therefore, no longer a consideration.
Fanbase Promotions and Jesus Gonzales are tired of hearing that “El Martillo” isn’t good enough to fight with the big boys in the super middleweight division. His record shows otherwise All he does is win and fill seats in the arena..how about a little love, respect and a call to a champion who has paid his dues, twice over.
