Regis Prograis has opened the door to a possible match-up with Ryan Garcia.

Garcia, who has campaigned at lightweight throughout his career, insisted his future belonged at 140lbs after stopping Javier Fortuna in the sixth round of their super lightweight clash and former world champion, Prograis is keen on a future clash with his compatriot.

“I love it,” the 33-year-old told the DAZN Boxing Show when asked about a potential fight with Ryan Garcia.

“The division is heating up.

“140 is definitely going to be the money division. In the next few years, it’s going to be the hottest division in boxing for sure.

“He’s saying he’s making that move and Teofimo [Lopez] made the move.

“It’s definitely going to be where it’s at.”

Prograis is on a three-fight winning streak since losing the WBA ‘super’ world title to Josh Taylor in the World Boxing Super Series final in October 2019, stopping Tyrone McKenna in six rounds in his last fight in March.

‘Rougarou’, who is ranked in the top six of every sanctioning body has been left frustrated after not receiving a shot at either the WBA or WBC titles that Taylor has vacated.

However, the New Orleans native believes he will lure a big name to face him and feels he could remain at 140lbs until the end of his career given the host of talent in the division.

“I will be a champion again,” he added.

“I might stay at 140 for the rest of my career.

“At first, I was thinking about, alright let’s go up to 147.

“But now there’s so much coming [up] to 140, I feel like I might just stay here and if I stay at 140, there’s too many names to not fight me.

“Eventually they’re going to have to fight me and right now nobody not saying my name, literally no one says my name at all, nobody.

“Nobody [is] saying my name right now, but once I’m a champion again and I’m going to get the belt, I’m telling you, I’m going to be a champion again.

“Once I get that belt again, everybody’s going to come out the water saying my name, everybody.

“Then all these dudes will be saying, ‘I want to fight Regis, I want to fight Regis.’”
