Roberto Garcia vs. Antwone Smith headlines Friday Night Fights this week

Garcia & Smith in Main Event; De La Rosa & Brunson in Co-Feature

Junior Middleweights Roberto “La Amenaza” Garcia (30-3, 21 KOs) and “The Truth” Antwone Smith (21-3-1, 12 KOs) will meet in the 10-round main event on ESPN’s Friday Night Fights presented by Corona Extra March 23. Friday’s show will air at 9 p.m. ET on ESPN2 HD, ESPN Deportes, and ESPN3 from Pharr, Texas. The card is presented by Warriors Boxing.

Main Event:

Texas’ Garcia has won his last two fights and will enter the ring with big fight experience having fought former Welterweight titlist Antonio Margarito. Smith of Miami, Fla., who won an eight-round decision in his last fight, enters Friday’s bout with experience having fought former Welterweight titlist Kermit Cintron.

“I’ve seen Smith fight before, said Garcia. “It’s a good fight for both of us. I’m going in there to win – and that’s it.”

Co-Feature:

Friday’s co-feature will pit Junior Welterweights “King” James De La Rosa (20-1, 12 KOs) against Tyrone “Young Guns” Brunson (21-1-1, 20 KOs). Texas’ De La Rosa, younger brother of Juan De La Rosa of The Contender, will look to rebound after a 10-round unanimous decision loss to Allen Conyers. Brunson of Philadelphia will also look to rebound, after a third-round TKO loss to Carson Jones.

Joe Tessitore and Teddy Atlas will be ringside at the Pharr Events Center to describe the action for ESPN2 HD and ESPN3, while studio host Bernardo Osuna will present the latest boxing news and highlights. On ESPN Deportes’ Viernes de Combates (Friday Night Fights), Pablo Viruega and Delvin Rodriguez will call the fights with Leopoldo Gonzalez and Lindsay Casinelli in the studio.

On ESPN2, Osuna will present features on Hank Lundy’s boxing experience growing up in Philadelphia, and discuss Jack Loew, the former trainer of ex-middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik who is training Dannie Williams, Lundy’s scheduled opponent on March 30th’s Friday Night Fights.

In addition, Featherweight titlist Orlando Salidos, who defeated Juan Manuel Lopez earlier this month to retain his belt, will be a special guest on ESPN Deportes’ Viernes de Combates.
