Scott Quigg is close to taking on Oscar Valdez for the WBO Featherweight title, with the fight potentially taking place on Saturday 10th March 2018 in Carson, California, USA.

Quigg, 29, says the fight is 99% agreed and is confident the clash will go ahead. Both promoters, Top Rank and Matchroom, have also confirmed that the contract negotiations are being finalised.

“We’ve been negotiating and everything that we have agreed verbally, if that’s put in the contract, then the fight’s a go-ahead,” Quigg said when speaking to skysports.com. ”I’ve agreed to the terms, so it’s now 99 per cent going to happen. Until that dotted line is signed, you cannot put 100 on it.”

Valdez, 27, defeated Genesis Servania in September via unanimous decision in a great bout, whilst Quigg defeated Oleg Yefimovych in November via a sixth round KO.

Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Boxing, went on to Twitter to confirm the negotiations.

And whilst speaking to Sky Sports, Hearn said, “I’ve been in discussions with Carl Moretti at Top Rank for a couple of weeks now and we are close to a deal. It’s a fantastic fight and one I believe can crown Scott as a two-weight world champion.”

“He’s been working quietly over the last 12 months and so have we. Now he’s ready to tear open the division.”

Bob Arum, CEO of Top Rank, promoter to Valdez, admits that Valdez will need to be at the top of his game to defeat Quigg, who is a former WBA Super Bantamweight title holder. “Is it a gimme fight? No. Quigg is good, and Valdez has to be at his best to win,” Arum said. “It’s about good competition for him.”

Scott Quigg’s trainer, Freddie Roach, believes the Brit will defeat the Mexican without too much problem. “Quigg should beat Valdez. I don’t think Valdez is that good.”

The two fighters have sparred each other back in March 2017, with Quigg going onto Instagram to post a picture of the two ahead of their then fights.
