Ben Shalom insists Conor Benn’s financial demands have been a key stumbling block in finalising a fight with Chris Eubank Jr.

Shalom, Eubank Jr’s promoter is in negotiations with Benn’s promoter, Eddie Hearn to secure a rearranged showdown between the British rivals.

The pair were supposed to meet in October 2022, however the catchweight bout was shelved on fight week after Benn failed a drugs test.

‘The Destroyer’ was cleared by the National Anti-Doping Panel, who lifted his suspension, with negotiations then restarting for a grudge clash with Eubank Jr, which would see Benn jump two weight classes to middleweight.

A main sticking point has seemingly been the financial requirements of both men, with Benn’s side asking for a 50-50 split.

Shalom said last month he had persuaded Eubank Jr to accept a split of 55-45 in his favour and the BOXXER promoter claims Benn is demanding the type of purse Anthony Joshua is able to attain.

“Getting Conor to understand that he’s not Anthony Joshua,” Shalom told Boxing Scene.

“I think getting Conor to be sensible.

“If this was Chris Eubank Jr three or four years ago probably when he was more hot-headed, he’s actually taken a pretty reasonable, mature approach to this whole thing.

“I genuinely believe that. It’s just about making sure the other side do as well. I think it will get done.”

Shalom told Pro Boxing Fans on Wednesday that the two sides are close to reaching an agreement, with he bout expected to be staged in April if a deal is made.

A showdown with WBA middleweight, Erislandy Lara has been lined up for Eubank Jr in the event a deal collapses, while his Essex counterpart is likely to pursue a meeting with WBC welterweight champion, Mario Barrios if he’s unable to face the Brighton man.

“I think it’s going to happen as long as no one does something stupid,” Shalom said to Pro Boxing Fans.

“We’re in the home stretch now.

“It’s like the final 100m and as long as someone doesn’t do something crazy it should get over the line, but it has to be now, because Lara’s lined up.

“Even terms all outlined. No one wants to wait around and everyone’s ready to go.

“We know where it’s going to be hosted. We know it’s going to be in the UK.

“The framework is there and now it’s just about getting it over the line.”
