Timothy Bradley-Jessie Vargas results: Bradley dominates despite funny finish

Timothy Bradley took on the previously unbeaten Jessie Vargas on Saturday night from the StubHub Center in Carson California, televised live on HBO Boxing. Bradley took home a well-earned unanimous decision victory, despite a funny finish which lefty plenty ringside and at home scratching their heads.

Throughout the fight, Bradley largely dominated Vargas. As we had forecasted before the fight began, Bradley was simply too experienced and was competing at too high a level for a fighter such as Vargas. However, the game, undefeated challenger had moments here and there.

None were bigger than the moment he had with roughly 15 seconds left in the fight. He landed a monster shot on Bradley, an unfortunate late-fight trademark for Desert Storm as of late, and went in for the kill. Bradley clinched, and the referee came in to break them.

He heard the 10 second bell, but mistook it for the round bell, and halted the action saying the fight was over. That mistake led Vargas to incorrectly believe he won the fight by stoppage, and for some general anarchy to reign for the next several minutes. Yet, despite all of this last second drama, Bradley was the clear victor.

There’s no need for a rematch after half an hour of largely one-sided action, followed by the final 10 seconds of a fight getting everyone all riled up. Simply put, Bradley is too much for Vargas, at least in this stage of their respective careers.

In earlier action, Oscar Valdez remained unbeaten with a victory over Ruben Tamayo. A first round knockdown was called in Tamayo’s favor, although it appeared to be a clear slip. After that, the unbeaten Mexican Olympian took over with ease, and cruised for much of the remaining contest.
