Tor Hamer & Boyd Melson showcased on Broadway Boxing August 14

On Wednesday, August 14, DiBella Entertainment (DBE) and Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson’s SMS Promotions will return to B.B. King Blues Club and Grill for the latest edition of NYC’s popular Broadway Boxing series. The card will feature a number of DBE’s and SMS’s top up-and-coming talent and New York fan-favorites, as well as a couple of exciting new additions to the DBE roster.

Both New York natives Tor Hamer (20-2, 13KO’s) and Boyd Melson (11-1-1, 4KO’s) will see action on the card in separate eight-round bouts. The heavyweight Hamer will face off against hard-hitting Kertson Manswell (23-7, 17KO’s), while Melson will fight a rematch against Brooklyn’s Jason Thompson (5-6-3, 4KO’s). Melson and Thompson fought to an entertaining six-round draw last year, and with both fighters claiming they were the rightful winner, you can expect them to put it all on the line come August 14.

“It means so much to me that I am able to bring the excitement of boxing to New York, my hometown. We have some of the best up-and-coming fighters in the industry and I’m looking forward to showcasing them on the next installment of Broadway Boxing. It’s going to be a great night,” said Jackson.

“Broadway Boxing has become one of the hot tickets in NYC and it will rock B.B. King’s on August 14,” said DiBella. “The Blues Club is a great venue for boxing,” DiBella added, “but tickets and space are limited. You won’t be able to get your tickets at the door, so make sure to order them fast as general admissions have already completely sold out.”

Hamer went 6-1 in 2012, a year that included winning the Heavyweight Prizefighter Tournament in England. Hamer was positioning himself for a major fight in the heavyweight division before losing to fellow contender and former amateur standout Vyacheslav Glazkov. In the bout against Glazkov, Hamer got off to a good start, before being forced to retire on his stool after the fourth round. It was later discovered that Hamer had been suffering from the flu just days prior to the bout. He returned with a vengeance earlier this year in May with a vicious third-round TKO over Maurenzo Smith and is looking stay busy for the remainder of the year in hopes of working his way back into contention.

Luis Olivares (4-0, 3KO’s) and Donte Strayhorn (2-1), both out of the SMS stable, will also see action on the card in separate four-round bouts.

Making their DBE debuts will be recently signed super middleweight Lennox “2 Sharpe” Allen (16-0-1, 10KO’s), who returns to the ring for the first time in a little over a year, and Florida’s hard-hitting promising lightweight Amos “2 Smooth” Cowart (7-0, 5KO’s). Allen is set to take on an opponent TBA, while Cowart will square off against former NY Golden Gloves Champion Chazz McDowell (6-3, 1KO). Both bouts are scheduled for six rounds.

Tickets for the event are priced at $125, $100 and $75. The $55 general admission seats are sold out. Tickets are available for purchase by calling the DiBella Entertainment office at (212) 947-2577.
