Undefeated cruiserweight Wadi Camacho returns on December 8

Wadi Camacho: Toks Is Gonna Get Some Real Punishment

In January this year Canning Town’s rising Cruiserweight star Wadi ‘Machoman’ Camacho won his first professional fight, beating Northern Ireland based Ugandan Moses Matovu.

Just under eleven months later, on Saturday, December 8th, the Barcelona born Cruiser Bruiser will step into the ring at the London Olympia for his first local title fight, when he takes on former World Title challenger Toks Owoh for the Southern Area strap at the Matchroom Sport promoted ‘Betfair Christmas Cracker’ event.

The meteoric rise of ‘Machoman’ lies firmly in the hands of his promoter, Matchroom Sports own Eddie Hearn and his manager/coach Bryan Lawrence, along with a little bit of help from the ‘big boys’ at Canning Town’s TRAD TKO Boxing Gym.

Bryan Lawrence, who also manages and coaches English Light Middleweight Champion Erick ‘The Eagle’ Ochieng who also fights on the ‘Betfair Christmas Cracker’ event, had no qualms approaching Eddie Hearn to promote Wadi right from day one.

Bryan and Eddie’s faith in the 6’4” southpaw paid off, with five excellent wins, over Moses Matovu, Rolandas Cesna, Igor Borucha, Paul Morris and Andy Ingram in under nine months, so much so that when the opportunity arose for Wadi to fight for the vacant Southern Area title, they grabbed it with both hands.

Following yet another bruising sparring session, at Johnny Eames’ famous TRAD TKO fight factory, Wadi confidently strutted into the office before announcing, “Yeah Buddy!, it’s gonna be so amazing, I mean amazing, so amazing. I’m so chuffed that this opportunity has come just now, obviously I was dreaming I’d fight for a title this year, and now it’s come true. Yeah, I’ve got Toks now, but whoever I had they were gonna get big punishment.

“The last time I see Toks fight, it was against Tony Conquest for the Southern Area, I really don’t like to diss people, but he’s got no mobility, I just put him in the same status as Tony Conquest, the same level as well. As I said, I promise you this, Toks is gonna get some real punishment on the eighth of December.

“I’ve been training hard, I know Toks will be also, but I’ve got something special planned for my fans, the public and especially my family and this is all about me winning my first title for them. I’m totally dedicated, I really want this, so I train three times a day and have been getting some world class sparring.

“I’ve been over in Ireland sparring with Prizefighter International Heavyweight Champion Mike Perez. He was preparing for a big showdown with Ruslan Chagaev in Germany this weekend. It was an amazing experience, I learned so much, he actually put me in my place. You know, we had some serious sparring, we were doing eight threes and ten threes with just thirty second rests, so that was something new as well in my training schedule. Nothing’s better than sparring a big hitter, and he had to respect my power also. He even said to me that I’m fit and he really felt my shots.

You know when someone who weighs seventeen stone, when you weigh just fourteen, says that, it speaks for itself. After my excellent training camp and the experience I’ve had in Ireland I’m even more confident that the belts gonna be around my waist on the eighth, then it’s on to bigger things, maybe the English title next year, Yeah Buddy!”
