Vanes Martirosyan Wants his Shot at Dzinziruk

Team Martirosyan is thrilled to hear the news that the WBO is going to force their junior middleweight champion Sergiy Dzinziruk (37-0, 23KOs) to face his mandatory challengers in consecutive fights due to his inactivity. This was decided at the WBO’s recent annual meeting held in Columbia last week.

Paul Williams is Dzinziruk’s mandatory challenger and Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. is ranked #2 by the WBO. It appears likely that neither one of those fighters will face Dzinzirukand that the Russian’s nightmare will come true. He will have to face undefeated Vanes “The Nightmare” Martirosyan (28-0 17 KOs) and this time without headgear. “Everybody knows the story of when I busted him up in sparring. Imagine what his face will look like after I pound on it without headgear on!,” an excited Martirosyan recently said from his home base of Glendale, CA.

Martirosyan isn’t that confident that Dzinzirukwill actually face him and thinks the Russian may prefer to vacate his belt rather than endure a beat down at the hands of his Armenian Nightmare, “I am tired of these so called champs ducking me. They can’t duck me forever. I will either beat the title out of Dzinzirukor he can run away and vacate it. Either way the title will be mine.”

Martirosyan was last seen in the ring in June versus the then undefeated Joe Green at Yankee stadium. Martirosyan dropped Green in the final round on his way to winning an easy unanimous decision victory.

The Armenian born fighter appears to be returning to the ring in Anaheim, California, on December 4th. More details to follow when an opponent is set. “After my December fight I am going to demand a title shot,” Martirosyan, who is promoted by Top Rank, stated.   “For me it’s not about the money. It’s about fighting the best to see who the best is. I want to give the fans the fights they want to see.”
