Carlos Adames made a successful defence of his WBC middleweight title at Caribe Royale in Orlando, as he pounded out a dominant points win against Austin ‘Ammo’ WIlliams.

Adames was in control against Williams over 12 rounds.

Adames (25-1-1, KO18) had served as WBC interim champion, but was upgraded to full champion in 2024, and took a wide points win against Terrell Gausha.

The Dominican was last in action last February, held to a three-way split draw by Hamzah Sheeraz in Riyadh.

After being halted by Sheeraz in June 2024, Williams (20-2, KO13) had won four on the spin, the last a clear win on the cards against Wendy Toussaint in January in New York.

The first round saw Williams in decent form, as he landed a couple of eye-catching left hands, but after starting the second well, Williams was dumped on the canvas, a pair of ramrod right hands doing the damage.

Williams resumed, but was badly hurt, and he did well to regroup and see out the round.

Williams had a decent third, but was then found off balance in the fourth as Adames piled on the pressure with some solid shots.

Although Williams was having success, Adames was controlling the action, landing several right hands while staying out of trouble himself.

The two exchanged in the sixth, but Williams looked as though he was tiring, and Adames was dominating more and more as the contest wore on.

The power shots continued to rain in from the champion, who was happy to take shots from Williams, while giving back with interest, and as the bout reached the championship rounds, it was one-way traffic.

Williams upped the pace in the tenth, only for Adames to up the ante, another pair of right hands landing and some solid body shots finding the mark.

Try as he might, Williams was running on empty, hurt in the final frame, although Adames was docked a point for a low blow.

Adames pressed for the stoppage, but Williams bravely made it to the final bell, where the result was all but sealed.

Adames retained his belt by one score of 118-108, and two tallies of 117-109.

Remaining undercard

On the undercard, the battle of unbeatens went the way of Corey Marksman (13-0-1, KO9), as he took a ten-round points win against Jaycob Gomez (14-1-1, KO8).

Two scores of 98-92, and a third at 96-94 ensured the contest went the way of ‘Too Smooth’.

2024 Olympian Omari Jones (6-0, KO4) went eight rounds for the first time, and the Orlando-based super welterweight won all available sessions against Christian Gomez (23-7-1, KO21).

In the other eight-rounder on the card, Teremoana Teremoana (10-0, KO10) stayed perfect, needing less than a round to knock out Curtis Harper (19-13, KO13) in their heavyweight clash.
