Fury AJ: Tyson Fury has labelled Anthony Joshua “mentally weak” for returning to trainer Ben Davison, ahead of their mega fight. The pair met for the first time at the Fury Joshua press conference this week.

Davison will lead Joshua’s corner when for the highly-anticipated heavyweight clash in Cardiff on December 11.

Joshua spent three fights with Davison, but later chose Oleksandr Usyk’s coach Iegor Golub following a devastating defeat to Daniel Dubois.

After stopping Jake Paul, ‘AJ’ survived two knockdowns, before wiping out Kristian Prenga in July and has now returned to the Essex coach.

Davison trained Fury for five bouts, before Fury appointed SugarHill Steward as his replacement. Ahead of the Fury AJ showdown, the Morecambe man has questioned his rival’s mentality.

“It’s the same Ben Davison he left because he wasn’t good enough one fight ago,” he told Boxing News.

“I don’t make anything of it to be fair.

“He left Ben Davison for a reason. Now he’s gone begging back to Ben Davison to train him.

“Mentally weak. That’s what I see.”

Fury AJ press conference lacks fireworks

Fury and Joshua squared off for the first time at a press conference earlier this week. Despite years of online squabbling, their first official meeting failed to truly come to life.

There were a few sparks, as Fury warned his long-time rival over his plans to knock him out at the Principality Stadium. However, Joshua refused to take the bait and instead insisted Fury pleaded for his name to be first on the poster.

Fury even offered to go for a pint of Guinness with Joshua after their long-awaited showdown, a fight boxing fans have discussed for the best part of a decade.

Dana White was not in attendance at Wednesday’s press conference. The Zuffa Boxing boss claimed for months that he’s promoting the fight.

With the Fury AJ fight now just over two months away, Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn and Fury’s handler Frank Warren claimed their contracts stated that White’s Zuffa could not promote the event. Although, Fury suggested he had removed that clause from his deal.

The British Boxing Board of Control confirmed to Boxing Scene that Zuffa Boxing has no involvement in the event. Instead, Sela alongside Matchroom and Queensberry will promote it.
