David Benavidez steps up in weight once again this weekend as he takes on Zurdo Ramirez.
Zurdo (48-1, 30 KOs) looks to defend both his WBO & WBA cruiserweight world titles on Saturday against Benavidez (31-0, 25 KOs) at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
Ramirez first became world champion in March 2023, dethroning Arsen Goulamirian to win the WBA title.
He won his WBO crown in his very next fight when he took on Britain’s Chris Billam-Smith and put on a show in Riyadh.
Zurdo has fought just once since those fights, when he took on Yuniel Dorticos on the undercard of Jake Paul’s clash with Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.
Prior to moving up to cruiserweight, the 34-year-old saw great success in other weight classes. He was a champion at super middleweight from 2016 to 2018 before stepping up to light heavyweight.
In 2022, the Mexican suffered his sole defeat to now unified light heavyweight world champion Dmitry Bivol, who beat him via unanimous decision.
Benavidez has been near flawless since turning professional in 2013, with 31 wins, 25 of those coming by way of stoppage.
‘The Mexican Monster’ has already scored some stunning wins at just 29. He has beaten names like Caleb Plant and David Morrell.
His last fight took place at light heavyweight when he headlined in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
He dismantled world title challenger Anthony Yarde and showed his levels, winning every round before stopping his man in the seventh with a brutal barrage of shots.
Benavidez steps up in weight for the second time in less than two years and will look to add to his growing legacy.
