Fight Pictures: Sergio Martinez vs. Matthew Macklin
Macklin started off the fight with a steady dose of pressure, and was able to keep Martinez off his rhythm and a bit befuddled. He dropped Martinez in the middle of the fight, although it was more the result of a push and stumble then a real, solid shot.
Nonetheless, he was in strong position heading into the championship rounds, but Maravailla wasn’t ready to relinquish his titles just yet. In the final 30 seconds of the 11th, he found a home for his powerful straight left, knocking Macklin down twice in quick succession, and forcing a corner stoppage before the start of the 12th.
Another big knockout win and title defense for Martinez, and another game, if not ultimately disappointing for him, performance by Matthew Macklin.
