Don Charles has reflected on some of Daniel Dubois’ standout moments in his ongoing career.
Charles helped navigate Dubois towards becoming a two-time heavyweight world champion in May.
At just 28 years old, ‘DDD’ is a two-time heavyweight world champion, having previously held the IBF world title and now reigning as WBO world champion.
He picked up the IBF title after his stoppage win over the previously unbeaten Filip Hrgovic in 2024.
Charles has been in the corner to oversee the success ‘Dynamite’ has achieved so far and spoke to BoxNation, admitting great pride in his fighter while also refusing to sit and reflect.
“It is remarkable what he has achieved. Daniel is a young man, an athlete who wants to leave a legacy.
“If you spend too much time looking into the past, the future will go without you. It is a race and you have to keep on running.”
Charles lifted the lid on the mentality of Dubois and revealed that becoming world champion is not enough for his fighter, who wants to make a lasting impact on both the heavyweight division and the history of the sport itself.
“Daniel wants to go down as one of the greats and if he carries on the way he is developing, I don’t see no reason why he can’t be in a few years.
“We want more and we want to achieve more. It is time to keep working hard.”
Dubois fought an unbeaten Fabio Wardley in May and was pushed all the way as he dethroned the defending champion.
Wardley held the WBO world title and looked set to defend the belt for the first time as he dropped ‘DDD’ 15 seconds in and then once again in the third round.
Ultimately, Dubois was the better man on the night as Wardley held on before being stopped in the penultimate round.
During the interview, Charles was asked if he was surprised by Wardley’s toughness and durability to hold on until the 11th.
“It is well documented, he is an unbeaten fighter, he always finds a way to win, so we weren’t surprised and we were aware of that.
“We weren’t surprised by his toughness. He is durable and Daniel promised that he would take his 0.”
He admitted the confidence in his fighter grew after the second knockdown.
“I knew Daniel had taken over from around round four, but you have to make sure that he stays on it.”
Charles kept his cards close to his chest when asked about possible changes to Dubois’ game plan for a rumoured rematch in October.
“One thing for sure I can tell you is there will be no knockdowns before we get up to win. We have to eradicate that.

“We will devise a game plan that will see Daniel retain his title.
“By any means necessary, as long as we are the victors.”
‘DDD’ and Wardley are set to rematch on October 17, once again headlining the Co-op Live Arena in Manchester, and many have questioned the quick turnaround from Wardley and his team.

Charles refused to be drawn in by some of the doubters regarding the decision.
“That’s not my decision, that decision comes from Daniel and his team.
“They’re not foolish, they are a professional outfit.”
