Christopher Lovejoy has called for a showdown with WBC heavyweight champion, Tyson Fury.

Fury and Lovejoy sparred in Las Vegas prior to the former’s victory over Tom Schwarz in 2019.

‘The Gypsy King’, who stopped Deontay Wilder in the eleventh round of their thrilling trilogy in October, has been ordered to defend his crown against mandatory challenger, Dillian Whyte.

However, ‘The Body Snatcher’ is involved in an arbitration case against the WBC and the governing body delayed the purse bid for a fourth time on Wednesday, giving both teams an extra 48 hours to reach a deal, until Friday January 28.

The situation took a further twist in recent days with promoter Eddie Hearn confirming reports that Anthony Joshua has been offered to step aside from his rematch with now-unified, WBA ‘super’, WBO, IBF and IBO heavyweight champion, Oleksandr Usyk to allow the Ukrainian to meet Fury for all the belts, although no deal has been completed.

Fury, 33, has vented his frustration over the ongoing uncertainty surrounding his next outing in a series of videos posted to his social media accounts and Lovejoy, who bounced back from a sole defeat to Manuel Charr with a low-key victory in Mexico in October, has called for an unlikely clash.

“Tyson, Tyson, Tyson, knock it off bro,” Lovejoy said in a video posted on his social media accounts.

“For one thing, you’re calling out people who don’t really want to fight.

“You know damn well [that] Dillian Whyte don’t want to fight nobody.

“You know damn well [that] Usyk and Joshua are about to have a rematch. You’re not even involved in that bro.

“So to make it real short, to make it real simple, if you want that fight lets get it.

I knocked your a** out in Vegas and I’ll knock your a** out again.

“You know where I’m at, you know where to reach me bro, we could do it this weekend, next weekend, next month.

“It don’t matter bro, lets get it, you know what’s up.”

Fury’s co-promoters, Bob Arum and Frank Warren have been eyeing a UK homecoming on March 26.

Arum named Andy Ruiz Jr and Robert Helenius as alternative opponents to Whyte, prior to the talk of a potential step aside scenario became public knowledge.
