An action-packed night of great boxing took place tonight at Fantasy Springs Resort Casino in Indio, Calif. on the October 15 edition of TeleFutura’s “Sólo Boxeo Tecate” and its undercard. Ten-Time World Champion and President of Golden Boy Promotions, Oscar de la Hoya, former World Champion Daniel Ponce De Leon and top lightweight contender Vicente Escobedo were in attendance to watch the fistic action.
Below is a summary of the results of tonight’s action:
|Eloy Perez||Dominic Salcido||Majority Decision||10|
|Frankie Gomez||Ramon Montano||Unanimous Decision||6|
|Charles Huerta||Felipe Cordova||Knockout||1|
|Deontay Wilder||Harold Sconiers||Knockout||4|
|Seth Mitchell||Derrick Brown||Knockout||1|
|Randy Caballero||Missael Nunez||Unanimous Decision||4|
This means that all of the big names were able to keep on winning. Prospect Eloy Perez won the WBO NABO Strap over Dominic Salcido, advancing his record to 19-0 and setting himself up in good position to soon fight for a full title at super featherweight.
Prospects Frankie Gomez, now 7-0, and Randy Caballero, now 5-0, were able to win impressively in their short bouts, with Caballero going the distance for hte first time in his career.
Heavyweight Seth Mitchell won via knockout to advance his record to 19-0 with 13 KOs. Meanwhile, US Olympic Bronze medalist Deontay Wilder fought and was able to win by TKO in the fourth round, moving his record to 13-0 with 13 KOs. But it wasn’t easy.
He actually was floored at the end of the second and had to return to his feet, marking the first time in his career he had to face any adversity. Against a 17-21-2 fighter, it also shows just how much work Wilder still has to do before becoming a real threat to the division.
