WBC Welterweight World Champion and No. 1 pound-for-pound fighter Floyd “Money” Mayweather will host a press conference to formally announce his upcoming  match against Marcos “El Chino” Maidana taking place on Saturday, May 3, at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

The press event will take place prior to the start of the “TOE TO TOE: Canelo vs. Angulo” fight card. Mayweather is capitalizing on so much of the fight world’s media already being in Las Vegas this weekend for the Canelo Alvarez vs. Alfredo Angulo PPV. Of course, Mayweather is in town, since he lives in Vegas as well, so it’s a good opportunity.

Additionally, the Mayweather vs. Maidana fight was just finally confirmed for the MGM Grand as well. So it’s some nice synergy all the way around.

The other thing we learned was that Mayweather vs. Maidana won’t have a real press tour as has been the case for Mayweather’s recent fights (his fight against Canelo had a 10-city mammoth beast of a press tour). So this is really the only pre-fight promotion that will be done for this one, a bit of an unusual move, likely reflecting the late in the game announcement of this bout. Mayweather vs. Maidana is less than two months away right now.

Fans can watch the Mayweather press conference live at sports.sho.com/live at 3 pm Eastern / 12 pm Pacific to see what he has to say, as well as on Showtime’s YouTube and UStream channels. You can also see the embedded video here to watch the Mayweather announcement.
