Frank Warren says he will make Anthony Joshua an offer today to fight Tyson Fury, as Eddie Hearn confirmed that he has held talks with Frank’s son George Warren.

WBC heavyweight champion, Fury sensationally called for a long-awaited fight with Joshua on Monday, through a video message posted on his social media channels.

‘The Gypsy King’, who stopped Dillian Whyte at Wembley Stadium in April, had been expected to fight unified WBA ‘super’, WBO and IBF titlist, Oleksandr Usyk next, after the Ukrainian beat Joshua for a second time in their rematch in Saudi Arabia last month.

However, the 34-year-old two-weight world champion announced at a press conference on Friday that he would not be be stepping into the ring until 2023, citing old injuries and desiring a period with his family after a long training camp.

‘AJ’, the former two-time heavyweight world champion responded to a separate tweet from his rival which read:

“Yo @anthonyjoshua what you saying big G let’s give the fans what they want as Usyk is bitching???

“I got the date and venue who will rule Britania?”

The 32-year-old Watford man replied: “Yea calm. I don’t do the online discussions just for clout, so if your really about it shout @258mgt. I’ll be ready in December. Khalas.”

Joshua’s promoter, Hearn, who had made plans for his charge to return in December against a top 15 opponent, revealed on Tuesday that he had spoken to George Warren on Monday, but remains doubtful whether the fight will happen.

“I had a chat last night with George Warren from Queensberry,” Hearn told talkSPORT.

“The message is quite clear from AJ, we don’t want to get involved in a backwards and forwards, we want the fight, it’s the fight he’s wanted for a long time.

“We had plans after the Usyk defeat to come back in December and then go again in March, get active and get the rhythm going again and then try and fight for the world heavyweight title.

“But, I know having spoken to AJ, if that fight is there and they’re serious, which I have my doubts about, but for the good of trying to make it happen let’s believe Tyson Fury and I said to George Warren last night, get the details and the offer over to us and I’ll take it to AJ, he’s ready to go.”

Fury’s co-promoter, Warren says they will be sending Joshua a “fair offer” today and confirmed they would be looking to stage the fight in November in the UK.

“We’re sending a written offer across today to them,” Warren told talkSPORT.

“My son George spoke with Eddie Hearn yesterday.

“It’s us who have made the approach to give AJ a great opportunity to get himself back into the top level against the world champion Tyson.

“He’s willing to make that voluntary defence, so we’ll send the offer across today and then they’ll have to look at it and decide whether they wanna grab this with both hands.

“We’re talking about being very, very fair.

“Tyson is being extremely fair and if and when these come out, if they wanna publicise them, you’ll all be shocked.”
