Golden Boy signs undefeated Mexican Olympian Francisco Vargas

Golden Boy Promotions is proud to announce another addition to its vast roster of fighters with the signing of 2008 Mexican Olympian Francisco Vargas. The rising junior lightweight star will look to add professional accolades on top of his impressive amateur accomplishments with an eye on a run at a world title with the help of the top team in boxing today.

A nine-time Mexican amateur champion who represented his nation at the 2008 Olympic Games, 27-year-old Mexico City native Francisco Vargas (7-0-1, 5 KO’s) is off to a strong start in his quest to win a world title in the 130-pound weight class. A professional since 2010, Vargas has won five in a row since suffering the lone blemish on his record, a draw with Byron Gonzalez in his third fight, and all of those wins have come by way of knockout, garnering him some significant buzz among fight game insiders.

Vargas is making his Golden Boy Promotions debut this Saturday, March 31 on the undercard of a show headlined by the clash between former Two-Division World Champion Jorge “El Nino de Oro” Linares and Chetumal’s Sergio “Yeyo” Thompson in a 12-round WBC Lightweight Title eliminator fight at the Grand Oasis Cancun in Cancun, Mexico.
