IBF Statement on Shooting of Women’s Lightweight Champ Rola El-Halabi

The IBF family was shocked and saddened by the news that boxer Rola El-Halabi was shot by her stepfather this past Friday, April 1, just before her scheduled bout for the female IBF Lightweight championship in Berlin, Germany.  While she did survive the attack, it is troubling that this violent and unjustified act could likely end this young woman’s career as a boxer.  Miss El- Halabi had a great record (11-0, 6 KOs), already had two titles and showed great promise for a successful career.  We wish her well on her road to recovery and hope that she and her family can heal from this tragic event.
