Moses Itauma admits he can understand Tyson Fury’s decision to fight Mariusz Wach before facing Anthony Joshua.
Fury will tackle Wach in Thailand on July 24, one day before Joshua meets Kristian Prenga in Saudi Arabia.
The pair have signed to fight each other later this year, with their long-awaited heavyweight clash expected to take place in November, provided both men win their respective warm-up bouts.
Rising heavyweight star, Itauma halted Wach in two rounds in 2024, but believes the Pole can prepare ‘The Gypsy King’ for his eventual bout with Joshua.
“I wouldn’t say [he has] a similar style to Joshua,” the 21-year-old told IFLTV.
“But he is similar, so I hear it.
“Wach is a mad man.
“I’ve had him here for sparring a few times.
“He sparred me and went to a pub having a fight and sparring me the next day.
“The bell went and he just tried to take my head off.
“I was like this guy just came for revenge.
“It’ll be interesting [to see] how Fury deals with it.”
Itauma looks to close in on a maiden heavyweight world title shot when he faces Filip Hrgovic at the O2 Arena on August 29.
The Kent southpaw is undefeated in 14 professional bouts and is the number one contender with both the WBO and WBA.
Itauma has been ordered to face Frank Sanchez for the vacant IBF crown, following Oleksandr Usyk’s decision to relinquish his belts.
Itauma though is not focused on Sanchez and admits bouts with WBA champion, Murat Gassiev and WBO titlist, Daniel Dubois are also appealing to him.
“The Frank Sanchez fight is on the table,” he added.
“The Murat Gassiev fight is on the table.
“The Dubois fight is on the table.
“They’re all on the table, it’s just a matter of timing.
“I’ve got Hrgovic. I’m pretty sure Frank Sanchez has an opponent lined up. I think Dubois has a rematch with Wardley.
“We all have fights, but in due time we shall fight each other.”
