Julio Cesar Chavez Jr vs. Bryan Vera rescheduled for Sept 28

It didn’t take long for the Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. vs. Bryan Vera fight to be rescheduled. Chavez Jr. vs. Vera will now be fought on Saturday, September 28th at the StubHub Center in Carson, California.

The bout, which was originally announced for September 7th but was postponed due to a cut suffered by Chavez in training, is promoted by Top Rank and Banner Promotions and will be seen live on HBO.

chavez jr cutChavez (46-1-1, 32 KO’s) suffered the cut earlier this week while sparring and forcing the bout to be moved back three weeks. Vera (23-6, 14 KO’s) of Austin, Texas has been training intensely in Houston.

Banner Promotions would like to apologize for an earlier press release that stated that the WBO Jr. Middleweight world title bout between former US Olympians Demetrius Andrade (19-0, 13 KO’s) and Vanes Martirosyan (33-0-1, 21 KO’s) will not take place on September 28th at the Stub Hub Center in Carson, California.

Details on the rescheduled date for Andrade – Martirosyan will be announced shortly.

The complete show, which includes the HBO televised co-feature pitting former Olympians Demetrius Andrade (19-0, 13 KO’s) and Vanes Martirosyan (33-0-1, 21 KO’s) for the vacant WBO Jr. Middleweight title will also take place on September 28th.

“We are happy that after Chavez suffered the injury that the fight could be rescheduled so quickly,” said Banner Promotions president, Arthur Pelullo.

“Bryan has been training hard and has been thinking about this fight for the better part of six months. We know he will put on a great show and that this is a great opportunity for him.”

It was just yesterday that Top Rank made an announcement regarding ticket refunds for Chavez Jr vs. Vera, so it’s a bit surprising they were able to put this back together so quickly. But that’s a good thing for all parties.

Also unclear is how this affects the Adonis Stevenson vs. Tavoris Cloud fight scheduled for Sept 28th, which was also to be shown on HBO. Maybe they’ll be having a dual-site tripleheader.
