Miguel Cotto was all business leading up to this fight. So much so that he didn’t even have music for his ring walk, and instead enjoyed the serenade of the 10,000 fans in attendance.

That approach, his new partnership with Freddie Roach, and a rejuvenating 10-month layoff clearly paid dividends. Cotto absolutely smashed Delvin Rodriguez, scoring a brutally efficient TKO3 victory.

From the start of the fight, Cotto came out as the aggressor. And it was immediately clear that he was intent on bringing back his old favorite, the left hook to the body. Cotto couldn’t miss with the shot, and the thudding blows were having a noticeable impact on Rodriguez.

At the end of Round 2, Cotto went upstairs with the hook, and almost sent Rodriguez down. He was able to make it out of the round but was badly buzzed in between stanzas.

In the 3rd, Cotto came right on out and looked to close the show. He got Rodriguez with his back to the ropes and began unloading, and after Rodriguez crumpled to the canvas, the referee immediately halted the action. Rodriguez simply couldn’t protect himself and was being battered around in there.

Statement win for Cotto, and a great performance. Still think he’s washed up?

In earlier action, Terence Crawford cruised past Andrey Klimov in a rather unexciting bout which drew the ire of the fans in attendance. Crawford clearly was a class above Klimov, but never really went too hard.

He’s awaiting a bigger fight next and seemed content to pick up the wide UD win, but it wasn’t exactly an inspiring fight or the best usage of an HBO showcase to help build yourself up.
