The “Siberian Rocky” Ruslan Provodnikov arrived at John F. Kennedy International Airport on Sunday. The Freddie Roach-trained Ruslan is scheduled to defend his title against undefeated Long Island fighter Chris Algieri on June 14, 2014 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY. It will be televised live on HBO Boxing After Dark.

While Provodnikov has arrived in town early, it makes sense, given that Freddie Roach’s other pupil, Miguel Cotto, fights in New York City this weekend. So with Provodnikov arriving as well, he’ll be able to stay with Roach and the rest of the Wild Card team to finalize his preparations. Then Roach won’t have to travel back to L.A. after the Cotto fight either, because he’s already where he needs to be for Provodnikov.

So logistically it obviously makes sense from everyone’s perspective, and surely Provodnikov will now get to catch all the fights at Madison Square Garden this weekend as well.

Promoted by Banner Promotions and Top Rank®, in association with Joe DeGuardia’s Star Boxing, remaining tickets to the Provodnikov-Algieri event, priced at $31-$206, can be purchased online via Ticketmaster.
