Terence Crawford is set to take on Yuriorkis Gamboa in a clash of talented, unbeaten lightweight fighters looking to establish themselves as the lightweight division’s kingpin. Crawford vs. Gamboa will take place in Crawford’s hometown of Omaha, Nebraska, marking the first championship fight in the city for 42 years, since Joe Frazier defended his heavyweight title in 1972 against Ron Stander.
Crawford vs. Gamboa is set for Saturday, June 28th, and will be televised on HBO.
Crawford, Gamboa and their teams will host an announcement press conference on Thursday, and at that time we’ll have more details about the fight, and the entire event and any noteworthy supporting bouts. The press conference will be open to the public and will take place at the CenturyLink Center in the Bud Light Zone.
Promoted by Top Rank®, in association with Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson’s SMS Promotions, PS4 and Tecate, the Crawford vs. Gamboa World Lightweight Championship fight will take place Saturday, June 28, at the CenturyLink Center. It will be televised live on HBO®, beginning at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT.
This is definitely an intriguing fight with a lot on the line for each man, and it will be good to see both facing a stern challenge. Still, Gamboa vs. Crawford is NOT for out lightweight championship. Crawford, ranked number 2 in the division, and Gamboa, ranked number 8 after another long layoff, don’t have the combined ranking required for us to declare this a championship fight. Now, if the winner took on Miguel Vazquez, we’d be all set!
