Undefeated Jonathan Arellano headlines on June 22 at New Blood

The summer season arrives and the action heats up for Thompson Boxing Promotions “New Blood” card taking place at the Doubletree Hotel in Ontario with several local area standouts and one international prospect on Friday, June 22. Undefeated bantamweight Jonathan “Lil Thund’r” Arellano (12-0-1, 3 KOs) brings his speedy style to the forefront once again when he faces Mexico’s dangerous Jose Angel Beranza (35-23-2, 27 KOs) in a bout scheduled for eight rounds.

Ontario’s Arellano has that sleeker more efficient look in the ring with a couple of convincing wins over Jonathan Alcantara and Michael Ruiz Jr. His most recent knockout victory over Jose Angel Cota at the Doubletree Hotel in his last appearance cemented his status so he could take to the canvas as the main event attraction in the summer’s opening event.

Beranza, 35, hails out of Mexico City, Mexico and is a vastly experienced veteran with numerous clashes against international elite fighters. He has a victory over Puerto Rico’s Jesus Rojas, who recently clashed with Jorge Arce to a no decision in Las Vegas. Beranza has also faced Jhonny Gonzalez, Wilfredo Vazquez Jr. and AJ “Bazooka” Banal and survived their vicious punches only to lose by decision. The well poised Beranza could be considered as Arellano’s toughest challengers to date.

In the co-main event, Ontario’s Ramon Valadez (11-1, 6 KOs) clashes with Mexico’s Aalan Martinez (10-1-1, 6 KOs) in an eight-round junior lightweight contest. Valadez is famous for his aggression as recently beat local rival Kevin Hoskins by knockout. Michoacan’s Martinez is a southpaw puncher with a victory over rugged Hugo Ramos. This matchup has the possibility of stealing the show, both are known for their fearlessness and no nonsense action.

Opening for the featured fights, junior featherweight Juan Reyes (5-1-1, 1 KO) of Riverside will be fighting the taller undefeated Oscar Venegas (3-0, 2 KOs) who fights by way of Bellflower. Reyes’ only loss was dealt to him by the skilled Vahe Saruhanyan, Venegas will be put to the test when he goes toe-to-toe against the crafty Reyes.

San Bernardino’s Artemio “King” Reyes (15-2, 12 KOs) returns to his home base in a welterweight bout ith Santa Rosa, California’s Enrique “Scorpion” Gutierrez (10-4, 8 KOs). The match up scheduled for eight rounds.

Reyes, 25, looks to shake off a loss in Las Vegas and is eager to return to form. The hard-hitting prizefighter has always performed well in front of the crowds at the Doubletree Hotel where many of his fights have taken place.

The hard-hitting, Gutierrez, 28, depends on his punching power to win fights and will do exactly the same in this fight against Reyes in order to add him to his list of victims.

Japanese born Takashi Okada (4-0-1, 1 KO) returns to the Doubletree Hotel and faces Nevada’s Oscar Vasquez (2-0) in a battle of undefeated flyweights. Though born in Okayama, Japan, Okada has fought four out of five professional bouts in the U.S. Vasquez is making his second appearance in California.

A preliminary bout on the first summer fight card of 2012 includes junior featherweights Danny Roman (3-1-1, 2 KOs) and Joel Hernandez (3-1, 1 KO) in a four round contest.

Bouts subject to change. Doors open at 6:30 pm, and the first bell rings at 7:30 pm.  The Doubletree Hotel is located at 222 North Vineyard Avenue in Ontario. The hotel phone number is 909-937-0900.
