Promoters announced a long-awaited Fury vs Joshua bout for December 11 in Cardiff last week.
Although, just a day later, Ring Magazine’s Mike Coppinger claimed the fight could collapse due to unspecified “issues.”
Whyte suffered his first professional defeat to Joshua in a seven-round shootout in 2015, while Fury stopped him in six rounds in a bid for his then-WBC heavyweight world title in 2022.
Despite fresh doubt over whether the fight goes ahead, ’The Body Snatcher’ gave his thoughts on the heavyweight blockbuster.
Whyte gives Fury vs Joshua prediction
“The fight is a few years too later,” the 38-year-old told Sky Sports on Saturday. “But it might be an even better fight now than it would have been.
“Six years ago, the guys were more wily, more cagey, better defence, better feet.
“If you asked me six years ago, I would have said AJ by KO or Fury by points. But now they’re both showing vulnerabilities.
“Fury could knock him out in a round. AJ could knock out Fury in a round.
“I would be very surprised if it lasted five rounds.”
When Sky Sports pressed him for a definitive prediction, Whyte admitted he couldn’t split the pair.
“I honestly can’t say [who wins],” he added.
“AJ was getting dropped with one inch uppercuts from Kristian Prenga and then Tyson, he looked a bit fleshy and slow in his last fight [against Mariusz Wach].
“I would say AJ by knockout or Fury by points or vice versa.”

Reporter Chris Mannix suggested Zuffa Boxing head Dana White’s potential involvement is jeopardising the fight.
Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn has maintained the contract his client side prevents Zuffa from promoting the fight.
White was in London on Saturday to witness Johnny Fisher’s majority decision win over Michael Pirotton. Reporters, including Pro Boxing Fans, then quizzed him over his involvement in the bout.
The UFC boss snapped at Sun Sport’s Jack Figg after Figg asked if he’d be willing to walk away from the fight, should his involvement scupper it.
“That’s not up to me. I’m involved in the f***ing fight.
“I know what you’re doing. Your leading questions. You f***ing know.”
Organisers have scheduled the first Fury vs AJ press conference for Wednesday in London, however White said he didn’t know if it would still go ahead. Although, proboxing-fans.com understands it is likely to take place as planned.
