Gomez vs. Soto is Cancelled:
Canelo Alvarez and James Kirkland weighed in today for their fight at Minute Maid Park in Houston, Texas, tomorrow night on HBO World Championship Boxing. Meanwhile, the planned co-feature to the fight has been cancelled. Frankie Gomez failed to make weight and couldn’t go any lower, and his bout against Humberto Soto was called off. Here though, find the Canelo vs. Kirkland weigh-in results.
Official Canelo Alvarez vs. Kirkland Weights from Houston:
- Canelo Alvarez: 154.5 lbs.
- James Kirkland: 154.5 lbs.
The main event pits Canelo Alvarez, making his 2015 debut, against James Kirkland in a bout scheduled for 12 rounds. Both guys look to be in shape and ready for action, and as we’ve mentioned, this one should be fun for however long it lasts.
It’s unsure if another fight will get moved to the HBO telecast in place of Gomez vs. Soto, or if they’ll just move everything up instead.
Also, in undercard action, Joshua Clottey will take on tough Mexican brawler Jorge Silva. Clottey, 38-4 22KO’S, weighed in at 153.8 lbs, and Silva, 20-8-2 16KO’S, weighed in at 154.8 lbs.
