Canelo Alvarez has admitted he would be open to a fight with Chris Eubank Jr, following his epic win over Conor Benn on Saturday night.

Canelo revealed he watched the back-and-forth battle between Eubank and Benn, where the former hand his hand raised following 12 gruelling rounds at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The Mexican superstar will attempt to become undisputed super middleweight world champion this weekend, when he takes on William Scull in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Should things go to plan, a showdown between he and fellow pound-for-pound star Terence Crawford looks to be locked in for September – but it sounds like Eubank could be next in line.

Speaking to Seconds Out, Alvarez said a fight between himself and the Brit was “obviously” a possibility, but emphasised his focus is fully on the task in front of him in a few days’ time.

“I’m focused 100% on what I have in front of me right now. But obviously there’s a possibility there. So we’ll see in the future.

“[Eubank vs Benn] was very good. A very good show and a very good performance from both fighters. I watched the fight, I enjoyed it.”

It remains unclear what Eubank’s next move will be, with some doubts emerging over whether a contractually stipulated rematch between himself and Benn, earmarked for this autumn, will actually take place.

A blockbuster showdown with Alvarez would take place at 168lbs, a weight most pundits believe ‘Next Gen’ should move up to after he came in just over the 160lbs limit for the Benn fight.

The Guadalajara favourite has previously expressed his desire to fight in the United Kingdom, and with Eubank’s popularity now at an all-time high, there is no one better placed than the Brighton man to welcome him to British shores.

The bout had reportedly been discussed between the two teams last year, though it is unclear how close a deal was to actually being struck.
