Hollywood Fight Night series debuts July 12

From the end of World War II through the early 1950s, the Golden Era of West Coast Boxing was alive and well in Hollywood, California with regular shows at the legendary Hollywood Legion Stadium on Gower and El Centro. In the early 1960s, “The Brown Bomber” himself, Joe Louis, promoted weekly shows at The Moulin Rouge Night Club on Sunset Blvd.

On Thursday, July 12, 2012, Art of Boxing Promotions, in association with Bash Boxing, will evoke memories from the Golden Era of West Coast Boxing with the launch of a new professional boxing series at the Legendary Florentine Gardens in Hollywood.  “Hollywood Fight Night” will include 10 professional boxing bouts featuring fighters from Hollywood and its surrounding areas.

Some of the most promising undefeated prospects out of the biggest boxing gyms and clubs in Southern California are scheduled to appear on the card, including former Golden Gloves Champion and Freddie Roach trained prospect from Hollywood Zachary “Kid Yamaka” Wohlman (3-0, 1KO), towering Los Angeles welterweight Terrell “Tyger” Williams (4-0, 3KOs), rising undefeated bantamweight from the famed Robert Garcia Boxing Academy in Oxnard Erik Ruiz (4-0, 2KOs), Espinoza Boxing Club lightweight Luis Bello (2-0, 1KO), and undefeated Burbank welterweight Mike “Smooth” Caracella (1-0).

Also scheduled to appear on Hollywood Fight Night is British import and current Hollywood resident, Light Middleweight Liam “Punch” Vaughan (4-1), North Hollywood Welterweight Javier Albonica (2-1), Los Angeles Bantamweight Raymond “Bad Boy” Chacon (4-2), Pasadena Lightweight Carlos “The Solution” Morales (0-1), Hollywood Female Welterweight Holly Lawson (3-2), and the professional debuts of Canoga Park’s Jason McGrue and Amateur standout, Paul Parker.

Right up the street on Hollywood Blvd., Florentine Gardens, which originally opened in 1938, served as one of the hottest Supper Clubs in Hollywood.  A Who’s Who of Tinseltown’s elite would frequent the Florentine Gardens, including Humphrey Bogart, Clark Gable, Rudolph Valentino, and Errol Flynn.  A young starlet named Norma Jean Baker celebrated her first wedding at Florentine Gardens…and would later become Marilyn Monroe.
