Matchroom Boxing and DAZN will showcase cards from Mexico in partnership with Canelo Alvarez, Canelo Promotions, Eddy Reynoso and Clase y Talento.

Canelo, the biggest star currently in Mexican boxing will go back to his routes with Matchroom and DAZN for a new four-part series starting with stablemate Julio Cesar Martinez defending his WBC Flyweight world title against Joel Cordova at the Domo Alcade – Code Jalisco in Guadalajara, Mexico on Saturday, June 26.

News of this partnership comes a week after Matchroom announced a five-year global deal with DAZN to make the streaming platform their sole broadcaster, ending their long-term relationship with Sky Sports in the UK and expanding on existing markets in the USA, Italy and Spain.

A monthly DAZN subscription in Mexico will be available for 45 pesos a month, with broadcasts in both Mexican and English, whilst the on-air team will be revealed in due course.

“This is a great chance for Mexican fighters to follow their dreams,” Canelo said.

“Sometimes our champions have to travel internationally to defend their belts and land opportunities. We plan on providing those opportunities in Mexico and giving young fighters the chance to develop and change their lives.”

“I am very proud to bring this exciting new project to Mexico and these new opportunities for our fighters,” Canelo’s trainer and manager Eddy Reynoso added.

“There is so much talent in our country and these new shows will allow our champions to defend their belts on home soil and our prospects to get the chance to continue to grow.”

Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom signed a two-fight deal with Canelo after he claimed the WBA ‘Super’ and WBC Super Middleweight titles against Callum Smith in December, with the four-weight world champion beating mandatory challenger, Avni Yildirim in February and WBO Super Middleweight champion, Billy Joe Saunders in a unification in May.

The partnership will now continue with this project and also seemingly for the 30-year-old’s next fight with Hearn set to make an offer with Canelo to IBF champion, Caleb Plant for an undisputed title clash reportedly in September.

“This is such an exciting project and partnership, and I can’t wait to get started on June 26 and add even more action to the DAZN global schedule,” said Hearn.

“It’s no secret that Mexico is blessed with boxing talent and passionate fans that truly embrace the sport. This new project will breathe new life into the sport in Mexico and give young fighters and champions the opportunity to flourish.”

Also on the bill on June 26 is WBA World Light-Flyweight champion, Daniel Matellon who will defend his title for the first time against Jose Argumedo after being elevated from interim titlist.

Gabriel Valenzuela looks to build on his impressive win in London, England over Robbie Davies Jr in February by defending the IBF Intercontinental Super-Lightweight title, whilst there are spots for unbeaten Super Middleweight, Diego Pacheco and Christian Alan Gomez Duran.
