Rigondeaux Dispatches of Casey in 1 Round

Rigondeaux vs. Casey Results from Ireland:

An intriguing super bantamweight title fight was scheduled for this Saturday night from Ireland. The former Cuban amateur sensation Guillermo Rigondeaux, the interim WBA titleholder, was set to take on Willie Casey. What made the fight was interesting was that both men were undefeated, and combined they only had 18 fights in their pro careers. The different in talent and physical skill though was vast, and Rigondeaux made sure to make that perfectly clear right from the start.

While Rigondeaux and his amazing amateur background were well known, he had also failed to impress in his last outing against Ricardo Cordoba. The criticism was harsh, considering it was his sixth professional fight and he was taking on a former titleholder, and one of the best fighters in the division. Oh, and he still got the win, of course.

Clearly, The Jackal was coming out to prove the doubters wrong and make a statement. It didn’t take long for him to complete his mission. He sent Casey down three times in the opening stanza  before the fight was stopped at an official time of 2:38 in the first. Rigondeaux has clearly arrived on the scene, if he hadn’t yet, and now it’s time for fights with the other big names at 122 lbs.
