The Boxing Rumor Mill: Haye-Klitschko Close, Pavlik Leaving Rehab, JuanMa Waiting for Opponent & More

The boxing rumor mill is here to keep you informed with all of the latest musings and whisperings in the sport. There are a few big rumors and breaking news stories today, including news on the showdown between David Haye and one of the Klitschko brothers, as well as Kelly Pavlik and his current status….

Haye vs. Klitschko is Close

It seems that after the recent 50-50 offer made by David Haye to the Klitschkos, and the brothers response that Haye could pick which brother he would want to fight, that negotiations have been making progress. Now, it looks like the Haye vs. Klitschko will feature Wladimir, not Vitali, and that the proposed fight could end up taking place in May or June, potentially from Germany. Haye vs. Klitschko would be a huge fight for the sport, and the first big fight in the heavyweight division in many years.

Kelly Pavlik Leaving Rehab

According to reports, former middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik will be leaving rehab today. He has been in the Betty Ford Center in Rancho Mirage, California, dealing with an alcohol problem which has been derailing his career. Pavlik has been in the clinic for two months and will be released as planned, according to schedule. He went to Betty Ford following a family intervention, and the signs of trouble about this issue can be related to his in-ring struggles as of late, including disappointing performances and on other occasions, the inability to get into the ring on fight night.

JuanMa Waiting for an Opponent

Following his huge win over Rafael Marquez, Juan Manuel Lopez is ready to get back into the ring and make a title defense. The defense is penned in for April 16th, and will be held from Puerto Rico and aired on Showtime. The network has final approval or veto power on the opponent, and since it’s an optional defense, there are many names in the loaded featherweight division that could potentially be chosen.
