Video: Celebrate & look back at 1,000 HBO Boxing fights

This weekend’s Timothy Bradley vs. Jessie Vargas card featured the 1,000th fight that was televised live on HBO Boxing. Right here, HBO takes a look back at their history, splicing together scenes from some of the biggest and most memorable battles, and biggest names in the sport.

The quick numbers include 1,000 fights, 522 KO’s, and 8,430 rounds that have aired on HBO since 1973. The first HBO boxing fight was shown in January of the year. It was none other than Joe Frazier vs. George Foreman.

Oh, and the image that HBO Boxing selected for the video? Appropriately enough, Arturo Gatti. Although the two fighters tied for the most appearances, at 32, are Oscar De La Hoya and Roy Jones.

Enjoy the quick look back at the history of HBO Boxing, from massive one-punch knockouts, legendary trainer motivation, changing of the guards, historic back and forth battles, a few crazy controversies, and all the rest.
