Prichard Colon, a former super welterweight boxer, has passed away aged 33.
Colon suffered a bleed to the brain after his bout with Terel Williams in 2015 and spent over a decade dealing with a brain injury.
During the fight, the Puerto Rican complained to the ringside doctor after experiencing dizziness following repeated blows to the back of his head, but the bout continued until he was disqualified after his corner removed his gloves after the ninth round.
Colon was diagnosed with a subdural hematoma and had been in a persistent vegetative state since 2017.
On Thursday, it was confirmed that he had tragically passed away.

WBO President Gustavo Olivieri paid tribute to him on X: “Re: Prichard Colón.
“It is with profound sorrow that the World Boxing Organization (WBO) has received the news of the passing of Prichard Colón, shared today by his father through social media.
“On behalf of our organization and the entire WBO family, I extend our deepest and most heartfelt condolences to his parents, family, and loved ones during this time of immeasurable loss.
“Prichard’s life was defined by courage, perseverance, and an extraordinary fighting spirit.
“His story transcended the ring and deeply touched the boxing community, which stood by him throughout the years with respect, admiration, and hope.
“Today, the WBO solemnly joins his family and all those who had the privilege of knowing, supporting, and loving him in mourning his passing.
“We offer our prayers for Prichard’s eternal rest and ask God to grant his family strength, peace, and comfort during this time of profound sorrow.
“Rest in peace, Prichard Colón. Your memory will forever remain with us.”
Colon’s parents filed a lawsuit in 2017 seeking damages from the ringside doctor, although the lawsuit remains unsettled.
Colon was a promising amateur, who just missed out on a spot at the 2012 Olympics.
The Puerto Rican built up a record of 16-1, before his career came to an abrupt end in 2015.
